Iran Resumes Strait of Hormuz Threats Amidst Resurging Shipping Attacks

Recent attacks on vessels near the Strait of Hormuz are jeopardizing a recovery in Middle Eastern oil exports, despite efforts by Gulf producers to return shipments to pre-war levels. These efforts had been bolstered by U.S. naval protection and earlier strikes that disrupted Iranian radar and communications systems along the strategic waterway.

An elaborate system of shuttle runs was implemented, with tankers loading crude inside the Persian Gulf and transferring it to waiting vessels outside the strait. However, following a period of calm, seven attacks on ships around the waterway have been reported since September 28th. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy has issued warnings to ships planning to use the U.S.-backed route, threatening them with targeting and destruction.
