Reform UK Faces Scrutiny Over Economic Adviser's Controversial Stances

Reform UK is facing renewed scrutiny following revelations about the past statements of its newly appointed economic adviser, Mitchell Palmer. Palmer, an economist at the Adam Smith Institute, has previously advocated for significant policy shifts, including the abolition of the state pension's triple lock, which guarantees annual increases based on inflation, average earnings, or 2.5%, whichever is highest.

Further complicating the party's image, Palmer has also expressed support for privatizing the National Health Service (NHS) and has welcomed immigration as a strategy for poverty reduction. These positions, revealed by The Guardian, contrast with some of the more commonly perceived stances of right-wing political parties and have drawn attention as Robert Jenrick, Reform UK's economic spokesperson, appointed Palmer as a key aide.
